Collection: Vintage-Inspired Bolo Ties
The Mid-Century Look, Reproduced and Labeled as Such
These 27 bolo ties borrow their shapes from the 1950s and 60s — engraved ovals, a carved flower slide, an Aztec sun calendar, a Celtic knot, rhinestone rounds, a letter-G monogram — and finish them in antique silver-tone, gold-tone or bronze plating. Every piece is new, current production. We put that in writing because plenty of "vintage" bolos sold online are pieces like ours with the word "reproduction" left off. If you want the retro look at an entry price, this is the right page. If you want an actual mid-century bolo with a collectible clasp marking, read how to authenticate a vintage bolo tie and buy from a dealer — this collection can't give you that, and we'd rather say so.
How to Choose a Vintage-Style Bolo
Start with the finish. Antique silver-tone carries darkened recesses that read as shadow and detail; it pairs with denim, gray and black, and suits cooler skin tones. Gold-tone and bronze warm up brown, cream and olive. Then pick the motif by mood. Geometric slides — the sun calendar, the Celtic knot — sit closest to mid-century western; rhinestones and the monogram lean rockabilly; the bat and steampunk slides are costume-friendly rather than period. Check cord length last. Cords here run from 29.5 to 42.5 inches. Under 6 feet tall, or wearing the slide cinched to the collar, stay at 38 inches or less; the longer cords suit taller frames or a loose, low drape. Our cord guide walks through the trade-offs.
What "Antique Finish" Means Here
The slides are cast zinc alloy. The aged look is applied at the factory: a darker layer left in the recesses under a silver-tone or bronze top coat. It is a finish, not age, and it can thin at hard contact points over time — true of any plated piece at this price. Stones, where present, are imitation or reconstituted; cords are braided leather or PU, stated on each product page. If slide, tips and clasp are new words to you, start with bolo tie anatomy.
If the era matters less to you than the stone, the turquoise-tone collection sorts by stone instead; for plainer metal slides, see silver-tone bolo ties; the full western range lives under cowboy and western bolo ties.
Vintage Collection Questions
Are any of these actual vintage pieces?
No. All 27 are in production today. Nothing on this page is old, rare or collectible — the designs reference mid-century styles, the pieces are new.
Will the antique finish rub off?
With years of wear at contact points — snaps, zippers, a desk edge — plating can thin. Wipe the slide dry after wear and store it flat; the darkened recesses hold up longer than raised edges.
How would I spot true vintage elsewhere?
Clasp markings and maker hallmarks; a stamped clasp can date a piece to a specific decade. The authentication guide covers both, with photos.
